Illustration for the cover of the journal Chem. Catalysis (Cell Press) for the article published by Aranda et al., presenting the results of a molecular-level study on the crucial steps in the replication of the SARS-CoV-2 genome using RNA polymerase.
Winner of the Junceda Illustration Awards 2023 - Scientific Category
"For the abstraction and, at the same time, clarity in the presentation of a scientific topic."
The idea behind the project was to depart from the typical didactic representation found in scientific journals and create an image that would be engaging for both the scientific community and the general public.
The cover depicts the primary outcome of a computational chemistry study: the inhibitory action of the drug remdesivir in the cellular replication process of the coronavirus.
My intention with this image is to invite all readers, whether experts in the field or not, to discover the key result of the article, recognizing that their understanding will vary depending on their level of knowledge.

ABOUT THE  JUNCEDA AWARD
The Junceda Awards, awarded by the APIC (Associació Professional d'Il·lustradors de Catalunya), were established in 2003 with the aim of recognizing and promoting the field of illustration in all its areas of application. The dissemination of these awards contributes to raising awareness of illustration to the general public, both in its traditional form and as applied to new technologies. There is no other award in Spain that grants such accolades in all areas of illustration.

Yep. That's me!
